Welcome to my Scotland page.
Scotland is a country full of ancient history, warm and friendly
people, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
Scotland...home of the Loch Ness Monster, haggis, Bagpipes, and whiskey. Land of my birth and Heritage, and a place I will forever call my Home. I hope that you will enjoy your visit.and historical cities in the world.
Castle Rock is connected to the 16th Century royal Scottish
residence of Holyrood Palace by a road known as the Royal Mile,
the main thoroughfare of the Old Town district of the city.
The Royal Mile is cobbled in most areas and is lined today with
many specialty shops and pubs.
I grew up in the small town of Prestonpans located in East
Lothian, on the south side of the Firth of Forth. I lived in
Prestonpans until 1970 when we departed for South Africa.
My memories of Prestonpans are nothing but happy ones.
We lived in an old abandoned girl's school called the "Mary
Murr
ay Institute".My dad was custodian of the building
and we lived in an apartment on the top floor. The school was
in use during the war, but had closed its doors some years later.
I can remember as a child playing in the abandoned
classrooms...the old desks, blackboards, the smell of chalk...
the building was a treasure trove for the imagination of a
young child! The Mary Murr
ay was demolished some yearsafter we left for South Africa. A new community center
stands in its place today.
Located between Musselburgh and Cockenzie.
Prestonpans was created a burgh in 1552 and over time
it became a collection of joined villages, including Aldhamer,
Preston and Cuthill. Known mainly for its coal and salt industries,
there was also fishing (including oyster beds offshore)
and the making of pottery and bricks. The Guild of
Chapmen (pedlars) also met annually here until the late 19th
century to elect their 'King'. Mining ended with the closure
of Prestongrange Colliery in 1952.
haggis, the Loch Ness Monster, bagpipes and highland
dancing - just to name a few.

Fewer products are so closely related to their land of birth than
Scotch malt whiskey. It is made from only the most elemental
Scottish ingredients - water and barley (often malted with a dash
of peat). Be sure to check out these fine whisky sites.

This is the most traditional of all Scottish dishes, eaten on
Burns Night (25th January; the birthday of Scotland's
national poet, Robert Burns, 1759-1796) and at Hogmanay
(New Year's Eve), accompanied by the traditional Black Bun,
Het Pint and Shortbread. It is really a large round sausage;
the skin being a sheep's paunch. The finest haggis of all is
made with deer liver, served to the skirl of the pipes, cut open
with a traditional 'sgian dubh' (black stocking knife) and
accompanied by small glasses of neat Scotch whisky. Check
out there great haggis sites for more information on the haggis.
